How to Create Evening Rituals for Self-Care

How to Create Evening Rituals for Self-Care

Currently, the internet is booming with self-help, “THAT GIRL” posts, and spiritual content, but where does one start their spiritual journey?  It can be really intimidating hearing and seeing all the positive content without a set guidance as to how that person got to that point in their spiritual journey.

What is an evening ritual?

First, let’s start with acknowledging that you might need a self-care ritual. As most of us work during the day, it only makes sense to create an evening ritual for yourself.  Ask yourself, what makes you happy? What healthy rituals do you already partake in and how can you incorporate those rituals into a sustainable evening routine.

Next, let’s break down a schedule that you can keep for yourself. Maybe Sunday evening is the best time for your schedule. Or maybe, if you have such a busy lifestyle, scheduling one day out of the month for your own ritual.

How to build an evening routine?

Now let’s break down what you can do during this evening ritual. Similar to a spiritual alter, our self-care routine should include something to ease a sense. By activating each sense, you are appeasing to all human senses and creating a vibe in your own space.

Aroma Therapy

Incense burn an aroma that may please your sense of smell has great benefits. Certain oils and incense when defused can bring a sense of peace. One example of this is lavender oil which aromatically promotes relaxation and has been reported to even treat anxiety, depression, infection, and more. Choose a scent that vibrates with who you and make sure the scent lasts for a few hours while you prepare your evening of self-care.

Sound Healing

Did you know there are different sound frequencies that can cause different feelings and sensations mentally and physically.  For example, the 50 Hz EMF is known to stimulate and grow hair follicles or 183.58 Hz helps to attract financial abundance.  Dig deep into your own life and find an aspect that you would like to elevate and raise your vibration for. Then, look up a frequency to match that aspect that you would like to raise. YouTube is a great resource for finding songs that match frequencies.  This is perfect for the sound aspect of the senses that also allows for a healing self-care routine.

Touch and Closeness

The next step is more physical with the sense of touch. You are slowly, but surely creating your self-care rituals for a regular routine that fits your life.  A great starting point is having a rituals oil for your new routine.  Connect with your own body with oils or moisturizing lotions. Show your body some love and exfoliate your skin, do a face mask, spray your favourite perfume, a massage in shower, or even use body oils for touch and smell.

Sight for Sore Eyes

It’s time to dim the lights.  Some reports of those who use dim light found that it decreases brain activity and makes it easier to fall asleep.  Dim lighting is going to be perfect for your evening ritual. Try using candles or low-light (yellow) to create a dimly lit atmosphere.  Give your eyes a break from your phone screen and read a book or cut up some cucumber to lay upon your eyes.

Taste

This is completely up to your own personal preference.  Indulge is the word for this section.  For example, if you wanted a healing hot brew of tea, a huge recommendation for a healing herbal tea is from Twenty Sumthings that includes euphoriant herbs. Another great option is a sweet treat. Whatever best suits your likes and needs would be perfect to satisfy your sense of taste, but remember that if you plan to go to bed soon, a large meal might make going to sleep a bit harder.

Spiritual – 6th Sense

Finally, the most healing part of the routine to finalize the evening. Adding a spiritual element to the evening can ease you into a restful feeling perfect for bedtime.  This spiritual element does not have to be out of your comfort zone. Something as simple as lying down can be a spiritual practice. Another great practice could be writing a journal entry, affirmations in the mirror, practice mindful thinking, rolling one up, or even meditating.

Of course, an evening rituals routine is something that is personal to everyone. A routine for self-care will always bring relaxation and a bit of dopamine.  The best plan of action is to listen to your body and your mind to see what works best for YOU.
